Join us as we welcome David Snider for a presentation on General Phil Sheridan!

CANCELLED due to COVID-19
David Snider, local historian, Somerset native, trustee and past president of the Perry County Historical Society works for the Perry Soil & Water Conservation  District.  David was a “Civil War Centennial Baby” and cut his teeth on Catton, Sandberg and local Sheridan lore.  He has been a guest lecturer and advisor for NPR, PBS and several private concerns.  His Sheridan presentation is unvarnished and balanced in spite of local conceit rather than because of it.

Snider will discuss General Sheridan’s career from clerking at Finck & Dittoe’s Store to Commander of the Army, with special emphasis on the Civil War years.  “Sheridan Unvarnished” provides valuable insight into the challenges of generaling in the mid nineteenth century and how Sheridan solved those problems.

Armies are very good at breaking things and Sheridan was perhaps it greatest practitioner!  He was obstinate, arrogant and a swashbuckling lightning rod who cared deeply about his men and the cause.

Snider provides a balanced approach to Sheridan’s moments of triumph and his occasional brushes with disaster, some few of which remain controversial to this day.
